Golf
U3A Golf Moraira has been in existence for over 7 years but formally became a Society in January 2016. We are a fun and social group of golfers whilst also enjoying some competitive games.
2016 has seen a dramatic expansion of the Society from one Stableford and one Texas Scramble a month to 3 games a month, a Society Championship and involvement in local Costa Blanca league golf. Membership has risen to 142 on the books and a full computerised EGA Handicap System has been installed integrated with this new website.
In 2017 we have a total of 28 fixtures, 16 of which are at Oliva Nova, 5 at La Sella, 3 at Bonalba and 1 each at Ifach, Alicante, Font Del Lop and Alenda. Some of these courses are the best on the coast. There will also be Winter and Summer league golf for those who wish to push out the competitive boundaries a little.
We owe much to the early pioneers of U3A Golf such as Keith Yeulett, Rona Hurst, Geoff Hurst, John Rhodes and Robin Woods. Without them we would not have had the foundation on which to build. Our roots have not been left behind and our ethos of social, encouraging and friendly golf still take priority. In 2017 we will again be holding our fun Christmas Game and Gala Evening and adding to that this summer with an “end of term” game, barbecue and quiz.
